Project Description

ANA Training Range Complex Herat was a design-build project. The design and engineering services were included the following activities:
– More than 1.2 million square meters of Deep Demining, Aerial and land survey
– Civil Infrastructure design including 30200 m2 access road (The roads are designed to carry traffic of up to a 7 ton, three-axle vehicle, and related storm drainage system. The road layout provides access to range facilities including observation towers and covered mess areas, classroom, ammunition break out building, utility & storage building, security detail office building, guard shack, water well, pump house, and water tank and localized septic tank system, and trash collection point. Other design features are:
– Force protection system (more than 10.8Km fencing around the ranges, guard shack and required security gates).
– 8 Observation towers with safety flag poles, stand approximately 10 m high
– Parking area (2500 m2)
– 8 Ammunition supply points
– 10 Covered Mess (One at each range measuring 75 m2)
– 10 Covered Bleachers (One at each range measuring 65.5 m2 with a 50 person seating capacity)
– 8 Weapons Breakdown/ Ammunition Building (One at each range)
– 1 Security Office Building Measuring 115 m2
– 1 Range Control Facility measuring 74 m2
– 1 Security Office Building measuring 115.24 m2
– Large storm drainage system/Wash Cross/Erosion Control System
– 8 fire ranges including: 1 Rifle Range measuring 75 x 300 M with 25 shooting lanes, 1 Pistol Range measuring 40 x 80 M, 1 Heavy Machine Gun Range at 1000 M with 5 lanes, An RPG/SPG Range with 5 Firing Positions measuring 50 x 1000 M, A Mortar Composite Range with 5 Firing Positions at 2000 M, A Hand Grenade Familiarization Range with 3 Throwing Bays Measuring 80 x 160 M, 1 Fire and Movement Range with 2 lanes measuring 130 x 160 M, A Modified Urban Combat Area with 3 Stations measuring 150 x 180 M.
The project was completed and handed over to the client on January 8, 2011.
